Revitalise flat and lifeless skin with a dermal filler treatment
As skin ages, it begins to lose its natural plumpness and springiness. This can lead to skin that looks flat, tired and lifeless. However, do not panic! There are effective ways to combat this, and one the most effective is the use dermal fillers to revitalise your facial skin.
A relatively recent addition to the roster of cosmetic treatments available to the public, dermal filler treatments involve the injection of a natural occurring sugar into the skin to give a fuller, more rounded and more natural effect. Provide patients with facial skin that appears more fresh and younger-looking.
We’ve prepared a handy guide to dermal fillers, so that you know precisely what the treatment involves before you arrange a consultation. This will make it easier to discuss and understand the options open to you.
Basically, dermal fillers plump your skin in the same way you might plump a pillow or cushion, leaving the skin on your face looking fuller and more youthful. As the tissue becomes plumper, the skin across it tightens, which helps to smooth out superficial wrinkles and fine lines.
Human skin is made up of two main layers – the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis sits on the top and is where you will find superficial imperfections and other minor marks. Beneath this layer is the dermis, which is thicker and contains more of the skin’s organic components – such as blood capillaries, hair follicles, and collagen-producing cells.
As we age, these cells become less and less effective at producing collagen, and the epidermal layer becomes increasingly thin, leading to an aged effect. Dermal fillers are injected into the dermal layer to help promote the production of collagen and to make the skin appear plumper.
By replenishing the collagen in your skin, Dr Shahidi effectively turns back the clock, making your skin perform its tasks with the same efficacy as it did when it was younger, regenerating the epidermal layer and giving a youthful, revitalised effect. ???
As well as treating the general signs of ageing, dermal fillers are great for smoothing unwanted lines and for reducing the appearance of the unsightly blotches and blemishes that appear with increasing frequency as we grow older.
One of the most common applications for dermal fillers is in combating smile or frown lines – also known as nasolabial lines – which run from the edges of the nostrils to the corner of the mouth. Years of facial movements and muscular contractions can leave these lines looking deep and craggy, but a session of dermal filler injections can reverse this.
Dermal filler treatments are also incredibly effective at boosting the volume and altering the shape of the mouth, creating more voluptuous and appealing lips.
Most patients who undergo a dermal filler treatment will experience no side effects, however some patients have reported redness, bruising, small lumps, itchiness and tenderness. All of these effects are normal and are nothing to worry about. However, if you are still experiencing these side effects more than one week after the completion of the treatment, please get in touch with the clinic and arrange a check-up.
Dermal filler treatments are not suitable for pregnant women or for women who are breastfeeding. Women should wait four months following the treatment before they attempt to conceive.
