Female Rhinoplasty

Female Rhinoplasty – Considering Nasal Surgery

Understanding Your Reasons for Rhinoplasty

Some women consider rhinoplasty for personal or medically appropriate reasons. These may include concerns about nasal proportions, asymmetry, or breathing difficulties caused by anatomical variations, trauma, or age-related changes.

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that may be considered to address certain functional or structural aspects of the nose. Outcomes vary based on individual factors such as skin thickness, cartilage strength, healing response, and anatomy. A consultation with a registered medical specialist is required to assess whether rhinoplasty is appropriate in your individual case.

  • At least two consultations (including one in-person)
  • A mandatory seven-day cooling-off period (as per AHPRA guidelines)
  • A comprehensive explanation of risks, benefits, and possible outcomes
  • A review of written material before informed consent is provided

Psychological assessment may also be required to ensure surgical readiness, especially for cosmetic procedures.

Reasons Women Commonly Seek Rhinoplasty

Women may consider rhinoplasty for various structural or functional reasons. These may include:

  • Modifying the size or width of the nose
  • Smoothing a dorsal hump
  • Adjusting nostril size or shape
  • Addressing asymmetries
  • Managing congenital or trauma-related nasal differences
  • Treating nasal obstruction or other functional breathing concerns

What to Expect Before and After Surgery

Dr Shahidi performs surgery at:

  • Alexandria Specialist Day Hospital
  • Lakeview Private Hospital (Bella Vista)

Most procedures are carried out under general anaesthesia. In many cases, patients return home the same day; however, overnight admission may be arranged if clinically appropriate.

Postoperative care typically involves::

  • Internal and external nasal splints to support healing, usually removed within 7–10 days
  • Swelling, which may take several weeks to months to subside
  • Final aesthetic outcomes may not be visible for 12 to 18 months due to gradual tissue settling
  • Avoiding vigorous physical activity for several weeks following surgery

A personalised recovery plan, including aftercare instructions and scheduled follow-up visits, will be provided and discussed with each patient during consultation.
